Our Tutors are always available, by email, telephone or in person, should you require any further assistance in achieving your goals.

The Qualifying Process

To gain the skill and experience required before attending an assessment, you will need to continue a programme of home-study research and practical client case studies. Each case study should represent a complete and realistic treatment, performed within a commercially viable time.

The practical assessment process tests competence. This is a candidate's ability to complete activities to a level of performance expected in employment.   There is no minimum set time to achieve competence but it must be achieved within two years of the candidate's VTCT course registration date. This time limit is enforced as the qualification criteria will change over time.

Your TPE will be assessed and verified by us and, if you have reached the required level of competence you will be invited on the next available assessment date. In order to qualify you will need to physically attend a practical and written assessment.

Once you have arrived at the arranged time, you will be asked to complete a short written VTCT test.   The test involves multiple choice questions and labelling diagrams which appear in the ÁBA manual of Anatomy & Physiology for Facial Massage Therapists.

It is possible to be assessed for more than one subject in one assessment session (ie, facial, body massage and Indian head massage). You will be charged an assessment fee of £40 per session, regardless of the number of subjects you are being assessed for. This payment is due on or prior to the assessment day.

You will then be required to set up the treatment area with your own products and equipment, in preparation for your client. Once prepared, you will perform the complete treatment(s) on your client(s), realistically and in a commercially viable time. You will conclude by demonstrating the consultation and record keeping processes as well as giving client aftercare advice.

Once you have been assessed as achieving competence, the evidence will be approved by VTCT External Verifiers. When the assessment results are approved and countersigned on verification, they are notified to VTCT to be credited to your records.

Your VTCT certificate of qualification will be mailed to you, but in the mean time we can provide you with a letter confirming your qualification for employment or insurance purposes, which will suffice until your certificate arrives.

VTCT Candidates' Handbook

This booklet is designed to assist you as a new candidate for VTCT.   It covers the frequently asked questions (FAQ's) and is to be used as a reference guide. If further clarification on any subject is required, the Ávida Beauty Academy will be your first point of contact. The handbook can be downloaded from the CD supplied to you or from the VTCT website on www.vtct.org.uk .

Ávida Beauty Academy Course Manuals

Where available, the DVD will demonstrate the practical skills you require in a clear, concise sequence and to a very high standard. The ÁBA Course Manual is designed to equip you with the theoretical knowledge required during your studies.   The course demands no additional reading material to meet the standards required by VTCT other than those supplied on the data CD.
